Every summer, I stop by the Red River Zoo and take shots that they use in their marketing for the next year. This year, due to my move to Minnesota, processing those photos took a LOT longer than usual and I just finished this weekend. The set is here.
Pallas Cat - There was a ground squirrel in there. Much excitement.
Pallas Cat - There was a birdie up there. Much excitement.
Pallas Cat - There was a photographer out there. Meh.
Slender Tailed Meerkat - Just 'cause they have slender tails doesn't mean that they're not tubby.
Slender Tailed Meerkat - Remember, when choosing a partner, it is very important to find someone that supports you.
Slender Tailed Meerkat - Love. This is what it looks like. (You know, if you're a flexible mongoose with an ADHD problem.)
Tanuki - Yep. I got me a tanuki tongue. Bet you're jealous.
Red Panda - I also got a red panda tongue!
When being chased like this, water is the only safe place. Rocks can't swim. (Well, OK, most rocks can't.)
 Mmmm, venison.
Russian Red Squirrel - Based on their colour, you call tell that they taste like dreamsicles.
Russian Red Squirrel - Mmm, corn.
Black Tailed Prairie Dog - Bless you, my son.
The little fuzzy rocks are actually ducks.
It took this little guy hours to fill the pond one drop a time from his bill.
Silly birdie, Kix are for trids.
Nothing clever to say here. I just really like what the water did to the pupil.
 Anchors away!
Blanding's Turtle - Can you believe that this guy gets a whole turtle to himself?
Wolf - Did you know that bats and wolves are both mammals?
Amazon Milk Treefrog - Moss only grows on the North side of the frog.
Llama - This is what the people on the other side of the phone look like when you explain that security is not point-in-time, but requires good operations and thought to succeed. |

Awesomeness!
The meerkat photos made me laugh out loud.
And now I wish we had Pallas Cats at the Detroit Zoo.
You are welcome to join me in Fargo for a photoshoot. :)
We had one at Potter Park, but it ate a ball and died.

Mongoose with ADHD! Tanuki tongue! Venison!
And I may have spoken to that Llama at some point; the expression looks kinda familiar.
I don't think the first Pallas Cat one stands up to the rest of the set; the face is too shadowed and obscured to work well for me (though you need it for the sequence of captions).
No. I got some photos of the Pallas Cat chasing the ground squirrel, but because of high contrast shadowing and the fact that cats are fast, they're mostly good at reminding me how awesome it was, but are not awesome in of themselves.
I haven't got through all the photos, but I just wanted to let you know that the meerkats sitting on each other made me literally LOL. I love your photos.
There are some nice meerkat photos hiding in that set.
Once I have time to start making my illustrated books, the meerkats should be great. Unlike prairie dogs, which constantly perform Shakespeare, meerkats do Marlowe.
"Unlike prairie dogs, which constantly perform Shakespeare, meerkats do Marlowe."
I love this metaphor.
I went to the whole set and I think the pallas cat tongue should go in the tongue set.
I didn't have time (or rather, attention span) to actually look at the whole set, but I will go back later and do that.
At some point, I'll make a whole tongue set from many different zoos.
Slender Tailed Meerkat - Just 'cause they have slender tails doesn't mean that they're not tubby.
Argh, I did a thing with water and my nose that my nose wasn't made for.
I think the second & third pallas cat shots are the best photos, but I love the red panda tongue and the roly wolf is actually my favourite because you can't see anything but legs :)
The novice zookeepers aren't always sure which way to plant the wolves.
Spectacular as always!
I think the two pallas cat ones are my favorites (by a little) because you captured their expressions. The llama is very glad he's not on Facebook.
Lots of really great photos!

It's nice to know that you have panda and tanuki tongues. I do hope you will give them back. They will need them at some point. Just sayin' :) | |
